the lost flashback scene

installation

statement

This commission for the Dallas Contemporary appropriated the city's Wilson Historic District, where the gallery was located, to realign its significance as a historic site into a new narrative.

Using the strict historic district-approved signs and typography, a visitor guide pamphlet and a large scale photograph of a historic marker, the story of this seemingly historic street's original purpose as a film set is revealed.

But are the images fake? Or is it the story? Or the buidings themselves? The integrity of this location is gradually brought into question and reveals the shifting terms on which we base our understanding of historical and cultural significance.
