artefacts from an imagined documentary - images/objects

series

statement

The series ‘artefacts from an imagined documentary - images / objects’ are a companion body of work to the ‘artefacts…’ film series.

The images/objects in the series can be read as both ‘evidence’ – to support narrative information seen in the films - or as ‘fabrications’ – props or visualisations used in the creation of the films themselves. The stack of one thousand film posters for one of Martin MacAnally’s films – ambiguously, without the film’s title – evidences The Researcher’s on-going investigation into the director. However, the seascape imagery on the poster is oddly resonant with The Researcher’s view from the cliffs in the film ‘Artefacts…:one’. The photographs & 3-D printed object allude to scenes from the films, yet reveal alternate actions to the events seen in the films. Discrete, yet cognate, these works reveal the unstable territory their mediated and reproducible forms inhabit. Simultaneously signifying a history already recorded and a future history still to be written.
